My father was Norwegian, my mother German. I was born in Oslo, but grew up in the USA. I went to college in Canada, grad school in Richmond, Indiana, USA, and have also lived in Portland, Oregon, USA, and in Elektrostal, Russia.
I've been a Quaker since 1974 but (sadly) am not related to any of the several Quaker families with the Maurer surname, as far as I know. I was baptized Lutheran in the Bakkehaugen parish in Oslo shortly after my birth.
My Norwegian ancestors seem to be well-documented, but I'm having problems finding information about my mother's parents, Paul Schmitz and Emma Laemmle Schmitz. When and where was Emma born? When and where did they get married? Why did they choose to emigrate from Germany to Japan?
In 1948 they moved to Stuttgart, and died in the 1970's in Reutlingen.

Hope you enjoy WikiTree as much as I have. You never know when you will find a lost family member or ancestor. Or maybe find a hidden family secret about an ancestor. Genealogy to me is like being a detective looking for clues into the past.
