Mary was born 20 Sep 1846 in Germany.

She emigrated to the USA in 1870, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ludwig Hartz and Mary A. Maurer were married 24 September 1871 in Boston, Massachusetts by Rev. James Simeon.

As of the 1875 Kansas Census, Ludwig and Mary and 3 Massachusetts-born children had located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Children listed: J.A. (M,3); S.R. (M,2) and C.A. (F,5mo.).

As of the 1880 Federal Census, Ludwig and Mary were living at 221 Elm Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. His stated occupation was Laborer. Ludwig and Mary had 4 children at this time: Joseph (9), Lord (8), John M. (3), and Herman (7 mo.).

As of the 1900 Federal Census, they resided at 4117 Red Bud Ave, St. Louis, Missouri. By this time, they had lost 4 children. The remaining children included: Louis R., Herman A., Henry W., and Frank G. 1900 Census notes 10 Children / 6 living;

As of the 1910 Federal Census, they resided at 2138 Salisbury Street, with Henry, Frank, and Frank's wife Emma. The 1910 Census notes 10 Children/5 living

She died 25 Sep 1913 of Chronic Endometritis.
