Sir John Maxwell was Lord of Caerlaverock and second son of John Maxwell.[1]
While Christian Carlile is listed as a wife on some unsourced genealogies, no other sources consulted have yet identified his wife's name.

It was this John Maxwell who was the grandfather of John De Pollok, the son of Robert De Pollok and Agnes Maxwell, who gave the said John De Pollok a grant of land in Scotland per charter dated 3 May 1372[4]. The marriage of Robert De Pollok and Agnes Maxwell is the earliest connection known between the Maxwells and the Polloks of Renfrewshire.
He died in the Tower of London on 17 October 1346.
