Thomas was the son of Sir William Maxwell of Tealing and his wife Margaret Moncur.
Thomas married Janet Lovell about the end of 1487 when his father granted them the lands of Balkello in the Barony of Tealing on 12 January 1487/88.[1] Janet was probably a daughter of the neighbouring laird, Alexander Lovell of Ballumbie.
They had a son:
On 30 Oct 1490 Thomas was among the witnesses with his brother David to the infeftment of the neighbouring laird Nicholas Fotheringham in the lands of Wester Powrie. His father William Maxwell and Alexander Lovell of Ballumby had been members of the Special Retour of Nicholas as heir to his deceased father Thomas Fotheringham.
Thomas gave his consent on 19 Apr 1492 to the charter of his father granting the monks of Coupar Angus Abbey the right to build and aqueduct to their mill at Carse Grange.[2] Later that year Thomas joined his father is granting sasine to the abbot of the monastery the right of digging, carrying or building tofts, glebes and all other things to assist in making this aquaduct at Polgavy.[3]
When Alexander Straiton of that ilk set a tack on 20 November 1508 to Andrew, Lord Gray, of lands and barony of Straiton for 19 years. Witnesses: Robert Gray, son of Lord Gray; and Thomas Maxwell, son and apparent heir of Sir William Maxwell of Tealing were witnesses.[4]
Thomas died during the lifetime of his father Sir William Maxwell of Tealing.
