Biography
John May was born in Cornwall, England.
John was born about 1798 in Colan, Cornwall, England.
He married Grace Williams in 1821. [1] They had six children by 1841: William, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, John, Caroline, and Jane, and were living with the three youngest that same year in Colan. [2]
Another son, William James was born in 1842. However, tragedy struck the family in May of 1843, when three of their children died within that same month - 9 year old Caroline, 11 year old John, and William James at the age of just 15 months. Another daughter, Caroline Williams was born in 1844, but heartbreak continued when their daughter Elizabeth died at the age of 17 in October of 1845.
John became a widower just three months later when his wife died in January of 1846. He died days later at the age of 48, and was buried 27 January in Colan. [3]
