1840 Lucy J. May, a twin, was born in Virginia, (probably in Botetourt County), USA on Apr 1840 or 1841.^[1]

1850 Lucy lived in Botetourt County, Virginia with her family. The 1850 US census classified the family as "mulatto." It is just chronologically possible that Thomas May was her grandfather and Salnoy (?) May her grandmother, but the census was mum on relationships at that time. Thomas May worked as a laborer to support the family, which was recorded as:
