Biography

1776 Project
Sergeant Joseph May Sr. served with 5th South Carolina Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Joseph was born about 1732. Joseph May passed away about 1829.

He is buried in the Joseph May Historic Cemetery, Walthall County, Misissippi. [1]

Joseph was the son of John May and Jane Williams
His first known wife was Elizabeth Baker
His 2nd wife was Sarah Jane Campbell, widow of Daniel McLain who died in the Rev. War.
His miliary marker states that he was a Sergeant with the 5th South Carolina Regiment during the Revolutionary War

Joseph B. was married a second time to Widow Sarah Jane McLean/McLain. and had the following kids.Joseph Jr.,Lafayette (little berry), Etheldred,Green berry,Phillip and Mary. He was in the Revolutionary war. He Enlisted APR 5,1776, in the 5th SC regt. His occupation was a planter,woodsman and Indain fighter.
