Services for Laura Louise May Coleman of Brookhaven and formerly Mendenhall, MS are 3 p.m., Saturday, October 23, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Mendenhall, with burial in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall. Visitation is from 1 – 3 p.m.

Mrs. Coleman, 83, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Silver Cross Home, Brookhaven. She was born October 4, 1927, in Weathersby, Simpson County, Mississippi, to Lish and Maybelle Purser May. A homemaker, devoted wife, mother and friend to all, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Mendenhall.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvin Eugene Coleman; her brother, Herbert Daniel May; and her sister Mary Alice May McMullen.

Survivors include her daughters: Rebecca Coleman Corkern and husband Thomas Corkern of Brookhaven, and Hilda Mae Coleman of Mendenhall; her sisters, Frances May Clancy of Albany, N.Y., and Gladys (Billie) May Sullivan of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Stacy McWilliams Parker of Byram, the Rev. Matthew Thomas Locy Corkern and wife Alice, of Mobile, Ala., and Jeremy Coleman Corkern of Birmingham, Ala.; four great-grandchildren, Shandi Elizabeth Stewart, Alexandria Stori Parker and Joshua Keith Parker of Byram, and Preston Graves Coke-Corkern of Mobile, Ala.

Memorials in her honor may be given to the breast cancer charity of choice or the Child Welfare Committee of the Junior Auxiliary of Brookhaven. [1]
