Biography
Samuel May immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
SAMUEL MAY “MAYES” was born around 1633 in Mayfield, Sussex, England. He was the son of John May. His father brought the family to America around 1635 on the ship “James,” and settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
He married Abigail Stansfield (1638-1714), daughter of Gideon Stansfield and Grace Eastwood, on 1/7/1657 in Roxbury. It is unknown when Abigail came to America, but her parents did not come to the colony. Samuel and Abigail had 8 children:

Samuel joined the Church in May, 1659, and became a freeman in 1660. His father’s Will, created in 1670, gave Samuel all the land, minus a half lot given to his older brother John. Samuel’s land was were noted in a land sale by his neighbor in 1676. Samuel died on 7/17/1677 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Abigail remarried to Humphrey Johnson and had 3 children with him: John (died in infancy); John; and Deborah. Abigail’s daughter Abigail would later marry her new step-son Nathaniel Johnson. Abigail died on 5/24/1714 in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

I think it unlikely that the family were from Mayfield.
