Francis Loren May was the second son of William Cheney May of the firm George May & Sons.[1] and Susan Margaret Storey.[2]
He was a former pupil from 1908 to 1911 of Ottawa Collegiate Institute (now known as Lisgar Collegiate Institute).[3] He was a member of the Ottawa Canoe Club and the Ottawa Ski Club.[1]
He enlisted twice for overseas service in the Great War first in 1914 but was discharged after a bout with appendicitis[1] and again in Feb 1915 with the 38th Battalion, CEF.[4] He was a Sergeant, but requested a return to Private, wounded in Apr 1915 and was killed in action Jun 1916 while attached to the 14th Battalion, CEF.[4]
He is remembered on the The Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.[5]
