Hi Christina,

I was wondering if you would ever consider having an Ancestry DNA test done for yourself. I am descended from Joseph Wagenblast of Eichtersheim / Heidelburg, Baden, born c. 1810. You list an ancestor on your tree, Elisabeth Wagenblast, born 1811 in Eichtersheim.

Whether you kept the results private or not, you would (theoretically) be able to see if we shared DNA. If so, it could be that your Elisabeth and my Joseph were siblings. If that were the case, you would be only the second person I've found that shared common ancestors with me from the area (besides my immediate family). It would be exciting to research them a little further with someone. If they are related, my tree will help yours as I already have Joseph's parents listed with a high level of confidence.

Good luck to you with your research either way, and thanks!

Hi Christina

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

And I see that you are interested in Germany. You may be especially interested in WikiTree's German Roots Project.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the Reply link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. Best of luck with your research!

Thank you for this, I need all the help I can get. There is so much to do. Right now my main preoccupation is to enter all the ancestor's profiles that I've accumulated. The little german book Ahnenpass is a wealth of information, but finding other source on all the german ancestors has not been easy.

Thank you for being willing to help. You will be hearing from me as I stumble through this pleasant and enormous task. Christina

You are very welcome, it is nice to have you here with us. I hope you like what you see here. Any problems or questions, please let me know.

I also recommend asking for help in our Genealogist to Genealogist G2G Forum. WikiTree has a wonderfully generous collaborative community of volunteers that love to help!

Take care

Thank you! I'm facing the task of transfering my tree from MyHeritage to Wiki so it will take some time, but briefly, the towns in Alsace / Baden are Strassburg (today's spelling?), Reute, Hagenau, Karlsruhe, Kandel, Daun, Markirch, Dinsheim, Minfeld, Dinsheim, Hurtigheim, Oberrimsingen, Hartheim, Klosterfelde, eichtersheim, Billigheim, Kuttolsheim, Feldkirch, Biengeni, Rathsdamnitz, Porst, Hausen.

This is a long list of places I only assume to be in the same region. I'm beginning a necessary study of German geography!

Christina

You're welcome. Lesson one in geography of the area: Alsace never was Baden, Elsass-Lothringen was part of the German Empire from 1871 until the end of WW1. Baden joined the German Empire also in 1871 but remained intact longer until it was combined with two other states to become today's Baden-Württemberg :)

Some of the places you name, belonged to Baden and some to Alsace. I might be able to help with the ones from Baden. For the ones for Alsace there are I think all church books online, while for Baden there are only the duplicate books from 1810 until 1870 online. FamilySearch has at least the books from the diocesis of Freiburg searchable, but without photographs.

Kind regards from currently quite Black Forest

This is most helpful. I see that spending time learning the geography and history of the region is expedient. Thank you.
This is a little late but thank you for the tips. I wish I could devote my whole days to this, it's so engrossing. Right now my challenge is to develop better research system, filing and note taking. Learning the geography and history of your region is also a must. I did visit the Black Forest in my youth. Beautiful region!
Hi Christina and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing
