Biography

Alice A. Mayer was born in 1858;[1] she was the daughter of Orlando Mayer and Caroline DeWalt.[2]

In 1860,[2] Alice A. Mayer (age 2, born South Carolina) was living in Newberry District, Newberry County, South Carolina in the household of her father, O. B. Mayer, Sr. (age 42, born South Carolina), with her mother, Carolina N. Mayer (age 26, born South Carolina), and with her Mayer siblings, all born in South Carolina (age, sex): i) Mary M. (8, F), ii) O. B., Jr. (7, M), iii) Catherine (4, F); also in the household was her uncle, G. G. DeWalt.

In 1870,[3] Alice Mayer (age 12, born South Carolina) was living in Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina in the household of her grandmother, Rebecca DeWalt (age 68, born South Carolina), with her Mayer siblings. On the same census enumeration sheet, immediately following the listing Rebecca DeWalt's household, [3] was the listing for her father, Dr. O. B. Mayer (age 52, born South Carolina).

In 1880,[4] Alice A. Mayer (age 22, born South Carolina) was living in Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina in the household of her brother, O. B. Mayer (age 26, born South Carolina), with her 2 unmarried, aunts (born South Carolina): i, C. M. DeWalt (age 52), R. A. DeWalt (age 50), and her sisters (born in S. C.): i) K. F. Mayer (23), ii) Carrie V. (19); and a cousin, Carrie A. Ellisor (9). O. B.'s occupation was a physician.

Alice Mayer died on 4 Jan 1883 in South Carolina,[5] and she was buried in the Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina. [1] She had been ill for the prior 6 weeks, and died from her illness (undisclosed).

Research Notes

Alice's middle name may have been Amelia; however I've been unable to confirm this with a primary source. Hiestand-529 00:31, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
