Sarah Elizabeth Mayes was born January 16, 1800, a daughter of William Mayes and Obedience Terrell. During the American Revolutionary War, William and his wife, Obedience Terrell had made their residence in Wake county, North Carolina, where William served as a Juror. William is honored for his Civil Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A211398. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his daughter Sarah "Sally" Mayes, who married Henry H. Tye. [1]
In 1818, Sarah married Henry Howell Tye, born December 10, 1798, in Richmond, Virginia. Sarah and Henry became the parents of as many as eight children. [2]
