Biography

Martha was the wife of Silas George Cissell, the mother of James Thomas Cissell and John Ignatius Cissell. In the September 3,1850 Federal Census for District 2 in Union County, Kentucky, her age is given as 23. giving her a birth year of 1827.

In August 28,1860, she and Silas are living in Hays District of Hickman County, Kentucky when the Federal Census gives her age as 28 and Silas as 38, Margaret, 19, and William, 13, George, 10, Frances, 8, Martha, 4, and John, 1 month, are living with them.

The 1870 Hays, Hickman, Kentucky Federal Census Silas is 49, she is 43, George, 20, Francis, 18, Martha, 14, John, 10, James T, 6, Barry, 3, Joseph, one year old.

In 1900 on June 19th, according to the census that year in the West Half of Magisterial District 5, she is living with her 35 year old son, James T, and her marital status is 'married/divorced', 13 births are credited to her with only 4 children remaining alive at this time.
