Biography

James Mayfield was an Izard County resident.

James Mayfield was born on 14 September 1874[1] in Izard County, Arkansas, son of George Mayfield (1850 - ) and Elizabeth (Jeffery) Mayfield (1847 - 1927).[2]

James married Cynthia Foster (1878 - 1963).[3][4] Their children were:

  4. Henderson Mayfield (1905 - 1964)
  5. Marie Pauline (Mayfield) Marchant (1918 - 2003)

He was killed on 5 July 1954 as he attempted to cross the railroad tracks in Calico Rock and was hit by a train. He is buried in Staggs Cemetery, Calico Rock, Izard County, Arkansas.[10]

Obituary

TRAIN KILLS AGED FARMER
Calico Rock-A retired farmer was injured fatally when struck by a northbound freight train.

James Mayfield, 82, died in his home about an hour after the accident. Witnesses said the man had crossed the railroad tracks at the depot here, then tried to get back across the tracks as the train approached.

He is survived by his widow, a son and five daughters.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.[11]
