Anna Blanche Maynard was born September 19, 1875. She lived with her large family in a big house in downtown High Point, NC. Her father was a merchant in High Point. She married Edward Wilson of High Point and they lived on a farm on Kivet Drive on the eastern edge of High Point, near Jamestown for the rest of their life together. Then Grandmother lived around ten more years in the home place on Kivet Drive. We enjoyed visiting her several times a month. We were allowed to play anywhere on the farm and could often be found playing in the hayloft or riding our cousins horse, Molly, that lived in the barn and pasture behind the house. Grandma always had many flower beds around the farm, and enjoyed gardening as long as her health permitted. There were large scuppernong grape vines growing on the farm and we enjoyed picking and eating the grapes with our cousins. In her bedroom, Grandma had a pet parakeet named Pretty Boy to keep her company. She had a piano in the living room and mother would often ask us to play some tunes for Grandma that we had learned from our piano teachers.
Grandma eventually became too weak to continue living at her home. Anna Blanche spent the last decade of her life in a nursing home in High Point. We visited her regularly with our mother while we were growing up. She was always a loving grandmother and had a humorous and entertaining personality, including her version of mimicking a southern belle fanning her face and batting her eyelashes- which always made us laugh. Our mother would often take homemade gifts to Grandmother, such as neck pillows, tissue holders and other items that she sewed especially for Grandma. Our mother died around two years before Grandmother. At that time, our father took over Grandma Blanche's arrangements for care until she passed away. Anna Blanche is buried in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in High Point. Anna Maynard ... [1]

We were friends with her other grandchildren who lived nearby and spent many hours playing together when we were small. Grandmother became weak and had to use a wheel chair for about the last ten years of her life. Eventually, she moved in with her granddaughter, Maxine, and family while she was still able to get around in her wheelchair or with a cane. One year, Grandma went to the beach with our family and Maxine's family. We rented a cottage at Cherry Grove Beach and we even got Grandma to walk on the beach with her cane. That is my favorite memory of Grandma, walking in the edge of the ocean with her cane.
Grandmother died about twenty years after I was born. She spent most of the last ten years of her life in a nursing home in High Point. We visited her often with our mother and she always made us feel welcome. Even though she was bedridden, Grandma would try to entertain us by fanning herself, while batting her eyelashes and smiling like a southern belle of many years ago. Mother would always cry when we had to leave. Our mother died about two years before Grandma. Our father helped to manage Grandma's finances and arrangements when she died. Grandma Blanche is buried beside Grandpa Wilson in High Point Municipal Cemetery.
