Biography

Benjamin was born in 1819. He is the son of Thomas Maynard and Ruth Griffith. J.F. Dornan's article on Maynard Family of Frederick County MD reports that he married Eliza M. R. Clagett in Frederick Co, MD on 21 Sep 1843 and they had six children.

1.B. (1): Thomas Maynard, son of Benjamin and Rachel (Richards) Maynard, married Ruth Griffith on 13 Feb. 1812. She was born 30 Aug. 1789, daughter of Howard and Jemima (Jacob) Griffith. (127) He died 24 July 1830. (128) His will, which was dated 7 July 1830 and proved 7 Aug. 1830, described him as being weak and feeble in body and left his estate to his wife Ruth and children. (129)

1 Rachel Ann born 24 Nov. 1818. She married John McElfresh:' 21 Aug. 1888 in Frederick County.

2 Howard Griffith, born 8 Feb. 1817, died 28 March 1899. Be married 14 Sept. 1856 Sarah Newton Chiswell and had eleven children.

3 Benjamin, born 28 Aug. 1819, died Aug. 1868. He married Eliza M. R. Claggett 21 Sept. 1843 in Frederick County. They had six children.

4 Nathan, born 29 April 1824. He married 30 Nov. 1854 Jemima Eleanor Chiswell and had six children.

5 Jemima. She married Lewis V. Scholl 2 Aug. 1841 in Frederick County but had no children.

6 Thomas. He married first Henrietta E. Stephenson on 29 Jan. 1866 in Frederick County and second Susanna Stevenson" and had two children.

7 Leah Eleanor. She married John Alexander Fleet and had six children.
