Shubel was born in 1775. Son of Cyrus Maynard and Lucretia Luce. Husband of Mary Ruggles, with whom he had eight known children:
Shubal Maynard came as a settler to Troy township in 1813. That section was still a great wilderness infested with destructive wild beasts. The family suffered many privations and hardships. One spring provisions were very scarce and "the last parcel was at the mill. To appease intense hunger the straw ticks were emptied and the few remaining kernels found for a porridge. Potatoes were very rare, the eyes were cut out for seed and the balance used for food."
Mr. Maynard cleared and improved a farm upon which he died in 1846, being survived by his wife, Polly, and children, Archibald, Katy (Mrs. Stoddard), Susan (Mrs. Geo. W. Shattuck), Lois, Abby Ann (Mrs. James McClelland), Olive (Mrs. Erastus Booth), Cyrus and Amos.
He passed away 25 Jan 1846 (aged 70), in Troy, Bradford County, Pennnsylvania, and is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
