Biography

The Mayne family were originally from Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.

It seems that Simon acquired Dinton Hall in about 1606, although the exact date not known but corresponds with the death of his father Henry in 1605, And that his older brother James inherited the family estate at Westbrooke Hay, in Bovingdon. Thta ismost likley where Simon was born.

Simon Mayne of Dinton Hall, Bucks. (b. c. 1577 - d. 13 Jul 1617, age 40; bur. Dinton church, Bucks).

Marriage

Simon is the second husband of Coluberry Lovelace (d. 10 Jan 1628/9; bur. Dinton church), widow of Richard Beke, esq. (d. 1606). They are the parents of the regicide, Simon Mayne (1612 - 1661).

Last will and Testament

Simon wrote a will, written on 12 May 1612, which several beneficiaries including son Simon who was bequeathed the Rectory, parsonage, tithes and rents and premises in Haddenham and Cuddington, after 15 years after his father's death, and in the meantime to his daughter Colubery for that term.

The other bequeath was that all remaining goods and chattels left at the time of his mother's death in the property in Donnington alias Dinton, would go to Simon, although a codicil added two months before his death changed that to remain with his wife Coluberry. The will was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 11 September 1617 with wife Coluberry sworn in as Executrix.[1] Will of Simon Mayne of Donnington als Dinton gentleman

But he also leaves a bequeath to Simon Colles who is his godson but also his nephew, sister Susan's son, and godson Simon Gape also his nephew, sister Anne's son.

Death and burial

Simon died 13 February 1617, aged just 40, and was buried in the parish church at Dinton. A gravestone requested by his widow Coluberry was overlain on the place of his burial and detailed in her will.[2]
