Mercy (Mayo) Sears was born about 1664 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony, daughter of Capt. Samuel Mayo (~1625–<1664) and Thomasine (Lumpkin) Sunderland (1626–1709).

Mercy Mayo was born no later than 1664, based on her estimated age when she died, and based on her father's death date in 1663 or early 1664.^[3],^[4],^[5] By 1685, she married Samuel Sears^[6],^[7],^[8],^{[9] [10]}
