Mehitable Mayo is the daughter of John Mayo and Hannah (Graves) Mayo. She was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, January 6, 1669 and baptized the 28th of February following, and admitted to full communion in the church October 28, 1699. She died in Roxbury, February 8, 1702-3. The place of her burial is not known, but was most probably in the old burying ground at the corner of Washington and Eustis streets.
Mehitable married Samuel Morris, also of Roxbury, son of Lieutenant Edward Morris. All of the children of Mehitable and Samuel were born in Roxbury:
Samuel Morris, born August 13, 1695
Benjamin Morris, born October 18, 1696
Mehitable Morris, born June 25, 1698, married Philip Newell
Rebecca Morris, born September 15, 1699
Hannah Morris, born November 9, 1700, married Clement Corbin
Dorothy Morris, born February 7, 1701-2, married Samuel Perrin
Prudence Morris, born January 31, 1702-3, married Moses Marcy.
By the Will of Mehitable's brother, John Mayo, her children were to receive one-third of his estate after the marriage or death of his wife. Mehitable's daughter, Rebecca, was to have 100 pounds. The reason for this special gift was probably that Rebecca was named for Mehitable and John's sister, Rebecca, perhaps a favorite, who died at the age of twenty-one.
