INQUEST.

AN inquest was held at Wombat 0n Friday, before Mr. Robinson, district coroner, and a jury of five, touching the death of one John Albert Mayoh, who was killed by having been thrown from a horse. The following evidence was taken :— William Mayoh deposed: I am brother of the deceased, and am nearly 16 years of age ; I last saw my brother alive at four o'clock yesterday evening outside our place, when lie mounted his horse; I held the animal while he mounted. He bought the horse the previous day at an auction sale at Young; he led the horse from Young; he also said that the person from whom the horse was purchased warned him that the horse was given to bucking ; when he mounted the horse here it went away quietly ; after he was some distance away the horse began to gallop ; that was the last I saw of my brother alive ; when he started my mother was present; she said he (ought not to mount until some one was ready to go with him ; my brother replied that he would chance it; my brother James was ploughing close by ; when he was coming home he found the deceased lying on the road insensible. James Mayoh deposed : I am the brother of deceased ; I was at home on Wednesday evening last, when my brother brought home a horse which he had purchased at a sale at Young; he said he had been cautioned by Mr. Mackenzie and Jim Nowlan that the horse would, buck; the next morning I had no conversation further than that deceased said he was going to ride the horse; I had dinner with desceased and familyI saw no more of him until I found him on the road lying on his stomach; he was then insensible, and was bleeding from the ears and nose;, and was breathing heavily; I did not see the horse about; there was some blood on the ground; but not much ; the horse I caught this morning with saddle on and perfectly adjusted : the bridle was also on, but was broken near the end, apparently by being trampled on ; when I found deceased he was insensible. I tried to carry him, but could not do so I then shouted for help, when my brother, mother and sisters came, also some neighbours; wE then bathed deceased with water, and removed him to the house: Mr. Bailey proceeded to Young for Dr.. Heeley. Robert Pettitt deposed, l am a farmer, residing at Wombat, and knew tlhe deceased since he was a child. he was steady, and not given to drink; last night I was at Mr. Bailey, about a quarter of a mile from here; I Heard some one shouting, and and calling on me to bring a bucket. I took a bucket to the dam where they were singing out I saw the deceased there and his mother and brother were were holding him in a sitting position, blood was flowng from deceaseds ears, mouth and nose and he was quite insenslble and breathingheavily; I assisted to:bring deceased to the house. I think he was dead before we arrive at thehouse ; however, he gasped once after he was laid on the sofa. This was about half past fiveoclock in the evening and it was getting dark. John Theophilus Heeley deposed. I am Government medlcal officer at Young. I have -examined the body of the deceased. there are no marks on the body with the exception of the head. the neck on the left side is a good deal swollen and discoloured, and blood was oozing from the left ear. there appears to have been a great discharge of b'ood-from the same ear, an I believe there is fracture of the base of the skull, and rupture of some of the arteries. I believe the deceased was thrown violently, on his head and that the cause of death was from fracture of the skull. Tlie jury, returned a verdict to the following effect That the said John Albert Mayoh, on the afternoon of his death, 1890 near to Wombat came to his death accidentally by being thrown from his horse.
