Biography

James was born in 1842. He passed away in 1928.

He appears at age 8 in the 1850 US federal census for Greenbrier Co. Virginia, in the household of his father.[1]

He appears at age 18 in the 1860 US federal census for Monroe Co. Virginia, in the household of his father.[2]

He married first Cleopatra Hatcher, 12 Apr 1866 in Kanawha Co. West Virginia.[3][4][5]

He appears at age 28 as head of household in the 1870 US federal census in Monroe Co. West Virginia.[6]

He appears at age 38 as head of household in the 1880 US federal census for Jackson Co. West Virginia[7]

At age 44, following the death of his first wife, he married her 16-year-old cousin Mary Elizabeth Hatcher on 9 June 1886 in Jackson Co. West Virginia.[8][9]

He appear at age 57 as head of household in the 1900 US federal census for Jackson Co. West Virginia.[10]

He appears at age 68 as head of household in the 1910 US federal census for Jackson Co. West Virginia.[11]

He appears at age 77 as head of household in the 1910 US federal census for Jackson Co. West Virginia.[12]

He died 4 Dec 1928 in Jackson Co. West Virginia[13] and was buried at Cleek Cemetary, Kentuck, Jackson, West Virginia.[14] The memorial at Find-A-Grave provides additional information on his military and civilian activities.
