Biography

OBITUARY: MRS. CHARLES ADDISON, BROMPTON. Brompton, March 7 - The funeral of Mrs. Charles Addison, who passed away at her home here on Thursday, February 21st, following an illness of nine weeks duration, was held the following Saturday afternoon at Christ Church Brompton, with Rev. Oscar Berry officiating, assisted by Rev. B. Watson, who spoke comforting words from John 16. The hymns sung by the choir with Mrs. Berry at the organ, were "Peace Perfect Peace" and "Rock of Ages". The bearers were Lawrence and Henry Wheeler, Howard Ward, Guy, Harold and Albert Robinson. Beautiful flowers covered the casket, among them being tributes from the family, brothers and sisters, Ladies' Aid, Mrs. Alma Taylor and Roy, Mr. and Mrs. T. Abercrombie, Mr. and Mrs. L. Noble, Mrs. A. Knapp and Miss F. Knapp, Mr and Mrs. A. Smith and Bernice and Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith. The late Mrs. Addison, who before her marriage was Mary Jane McArthur, second daughter of the late Robert McArthur and his wife, Sarah Boast McArthur, was born in Richmond on May 13, 1867. Her marriage to Charles Addison of Brompton took place on November 26, 1890. The first eight years of their married life were spent in Lime Ridge and Marbleton, where Mr. Addison was employed by the Maine Central Railroad. They returned to Brompton in 1898, where they have resided for over thirty-six years. Although not enjoying good health for the past eighteen years, when her health allowed, she was a faithful attendant of Christ Church, a member of the Aid and Auxiliary and also assisted her husband in his duties as people's warden for the past thirty-two years. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. H.E. Perkins of Brompton, Mrs. C.L. Gremmels of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren; Paul Proulx of Three Rivers who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Addison for many years; two brothers, Wallace and R. Edwin McArthur of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. George R. Gilchrist, Mrs. Eva Rodgers and Mrs. William Rodgers, all of Richmond; one aunt, Mrs. Alma Taylor of Sherbrooke and many other relatives. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Rev. B. Watson of Fitch Bay; Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Gilchrist, Mrs. W. Gordon, Mr and Mrs. William Rodgers, Mrs. Eva Rodgers, Mr. L. Noble, Mrs. T. Abercrombie and Mr. F. Boast of Richmond; Mr. Roy Taylor, Mr. John Robinson, Mr. Albert Robinson and Mr. Preston Swallow, Sherbrooke; Mrs. T.D. Brown, Waterville, Miss Edna Brown, Compton and others from Windsor and Greenlay.
