OBITUARY: Jewel Lee "Mac" McBride, 93, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1981, died peacefully at Torrey Pines Family Elder Care Home on Sunday, May, 1, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Esther McBride; his daughter Conchetta Maria Benham from ex-wife Zeltie Marie (deceased) and husband Paul George Benham; four grandchildren: Melissa Renee Benham and husband Brent Cunningham, Christopher Paul Benham, Ian George Benham and Jasmine Ariel Zeltie Benham; two great-grandchildren: Princeton Ian Benham and Mina Natalia Benham-Cunningham; sister Eva Pearl Day; brother Revis Douglas McBride; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Jewel was born on July 22, 1917 in Athens, LA to Jasper Lee and Beulah Acklen McBride. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII, was wounded and honorably discharged. Jewel moved to New Oreleans, LA and worked as Chief Boiler Maker for Avondale Shipyards building ships for the U.S. Navy until his retirement. Jewel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his wonderfully funny stories.
