Biography

Grace Browning McBride was the fourth child of five born to William McBride and Elizabeth Bessie Weir on July 26, 1893 in Ireland. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1914, and she, her sister Sara, and brother Robert, lived with their mother in New Jersey, first in West Orange, Essex County, later in East Orange, Essex County, and still later in Hillsdale-Westwood in Bergen County. Grace never married. The 1940 census indicates Grace managed a confectionary store with her sister Sara, and by the 1950's they had settled in Ocean Grove, Monmouth County, New Jersey, where they served as caretakers for some type of Women's Club. Their job was to set up the house for meetings and keep the house clean. Grace died of cancer on June 14, 1956 at her home in Ocean Grove, and is buried at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, Morris County, New Jersey.
