James was born in North Carolina in 1888. He was the son of Calvin McBryde and Sallie Currie. In 1914 James married Mary Dalton and together they were parents of four children. They farmed and James worked in the lumber business. They lived in Blue Springs, Hoke, North Carolina where James passed away in 1945 at age 57. James and Mary are buried together in Raeford, North Carolina.
