During her early 20s, Hughina was a student nurse at Bath City Hospital in Bath, Maine.[1] Whether she completed that course of study and ever practiced nursing is unknown.
Hughina ended up becoming a teacher of stenography. She first taught at the Newcastle Comprehensive HIgh School from 1925 to 1928[2] She apparently remained a teacher since she is listed in the 1957 Voters List as a teacher.[3]
Hughina seems to never have married. She died in 1974 and is buried in the Old McCain Cemetery, Florenceville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada.
