Biography

Susan Malinda McCain was born on November 20, 1847,^[1] in Carroll County, Indiana. She was the daughter of David Dill McCain and Esther (Dillon) McCain. She was in her parent's, David and Ester's home at age 2 in Carrollton Twp., Carroll County, Indiana, along with her siblings, William-10, Mary-5, and Mahala under a year old.^[2]

She was a School Teacher by profession. At age 22, she was living with her mother in Carrolton, working as a School Teacher.^[3]

She married William 'Jasper' Landes on September 27, 1879, in Carroll County, Indiana.^[4] They had 2 children.

1. Drusilla "Drue" Isabelle Landes (1866-1949)
2. Jessie E Landes (1880-1970)

In 1880 they were living in Flora, Carroll County, Indiana, where Jasper was farming and she was tending the home and caring for their daughter Drusilla-13, and two other children, Liona Lands-8, and Hannah Lands-5.^[5]

By 1900 Jessie-20 was the only child in the home. Jasper was farming.^[6]

Her husband Jasper passsed away on February 25, 1915, in Carrroll County, Indiana, at the age of 62. They had been married 35 years.

Widowed, Susan-72 and Jessie-39 were living in carroll County, where she was managing the farm.^[7]

She died at the age of 81, on December 19, 1938 in Carroll County, Indiana, and was buried next to her husband, in the Beech Grove Cemetery, in Sharon, Carroll county, Indiana.^[1]
