Brianne Rainey Davidson: Notes
William Alexander McKean and Sarah Hamilton are currently documented on this page as the parents of Hugh Mccain Sr. I have found a thread on Family Search that lists his potential parentage as Major Robert McCain (b. Ballymoney, Antrim County, Ireland in 1703, d. 1788 Pensylvania) and Sarah Hamilton (b. 1810 in Londonderry, Ireland, d. 1785 South Carolina, United States). I am continuing to search for proof of the accurate lineage and will update as I find evidence. Could Sarah have possibly married twice and had children by both McCain and McKean? The Family search tree shows this:
Major Robert McCain 1703-1788 and Sarah Hamilton 1710-1785:
Children: Hugh Mccain Sr. 1729-1821, John McCain 1730-1798
Notes: Some people believe he was born in Pennsylvania, others say in Ireland. I am still researching this question. Miller-33353 17:41, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
Notes: Another handwritten note from a descendant I found says there were two sets of McCain brothers, one that settled in Pennsylvania and one that settled in North Carolina and that the records for these men with identical and similar names are often co-mingled. Here's how I think you can separate the two:
The McCains from Pennsylvania moved south to Mississippi and Arkansas.
The McCains from North Carolina moved to Tennessee and then south and west to Alabama and Texas.
The marriage records shown below are misleading because they say that Hugh McCain was born in Pennsylvania, but I believe that to be an error. If I discover otherwise, I will remove these records.Miller-33353 18:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

History of Hugh McCain
This is a great resource on Hugh McCain and his descendants. It notes that a son named Robert is not named and that more work needs to be done to
confirm the line between Robert and Hugh.
Note that son Robert is not mentioned, probably because he predeceased him by 9 years.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Huey by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Huey:
Hugh McCain may have been born in the Marsh Creek settlement in Pennsylvania, west of the Susquehanna River. There is no original document which proves where he was born. On 5 Dec.1758 Hugh McCain witnessed a gift deed from William Nutt to his sons, John, William Jr., and Andrew Nutt. Eleanor Nutt, Hugh's his wife, retained the use of the home tract for the rest of her life. Recorded Anson County, NC. Deed Book 5, p. 305.
The Waxhaw settlement was originally located in Anson Co., which became Mecklenburg Co, then finally Union Co., NC.
