Son of Daniel and Matilda (McDonald) McCain. Husband of Florence Newell. Father of Cora, Perry, Ralph, Mable, Rose, Fred, Reed, Mary. James Howard was known as "Howard" because his uncle, James Howard McCain, had the same name. Howard was a farmer in Carroll County, Indiana. He died at the age of 52 of kidney problems.
