Biography

Eva (McCaleb) Morris was born in Appalachia, in Alabama.

Eva Florence "Evie" McCaleb was born in Brown, Fayette County, Alabama on 25 August 1894. She was the daughter of Miles H. M. McCaleb and Barsheba Susan Ann McCaleb.

Evie, who was five years old, was listed in the 1900 Census with her parents and siblings. The family also had a farm hand, Thomas Tucker, living with them. ^[1]

Evie's father passed away in 1904 and her sister, Jarucia, passed away in 1905. The 1910 Census shows Evie living with her widowed mother and her siblings. Her sister's widowed husband, Philemon Alfred "Phil" Morris was also living with them, along with his two children Delona "Lona" (9) and Freddie (7).^[2]

On 28 February 1915 Evie married Philemon Alfred "Phil" Morris in Fayette County, Alabama.^[3]

In 1920, Evie is living in Brown with Phil, Lona, and Fred.^[4]

The 1930 Census lists Phil, Eva, and Fred living on the farm in Brown.^[5] Eva never had any children of her own.

Eva and Phil were still living on the farm in Brown, along with her uncle, John Tyler McCaleb on the 1940 Census.^[6]

Phil passed away on 18 November 1940. He was laid to rest in the Morris Cemetery, Fayette County, Alabama.^[7]

In 1950, Evie was living with her son Fred's family in Winfield, Marion County, Alabama.^[8]

Some time after 1950, Evie and her sister Vera "Gigi" moved to a house in Winfield, Marion County, Alabama. The house was behind their sister Leah's home. Evie passed away on 11 April 1982 in Winfield, Marion County, Alabama. She was laid to rest in the Morris Cemetery, Fayette County, Alabama.^[9]
