Biography
Josiah was born in 1822. He passed away in 1864. [1]
Josiah Franklin McCall, son of Matthew & Margaret, was born April 7, 1822. He was twice married: first to Elizabeth Hall, daughter of Daniel Hall & Isabelle ?; to them, three children were born: Daniel H., Elizabeth, & Isabelle J. McCall. His second marriage was to Cecelia Katherine "Celia" McCall, daughter of his uncle Johnny McCall & his wife Margaret Jane Smith. Josiah & Celia were first cousins. Their children: Nancy C., Kathy "Katy," Samuel H., Margaret, Sarah C., & Junius L. McCall.
In 1858, Josiah F. McCall bought 71 acres of land in the Goose Creek community, Union County, NC. Matthew, his father, witnessed this transaction. This land was left to his wife, Celia; it was not recorded in the courthouse records until 1885, when Celia sold this land to William S. Wilson. Josiah also owned 71 acres of land in the Morning Star township, Mecklenburg County, NC. This land was sold on December 24, 1897 by his heirs Samuel McCall, Junius McCall, Nancy Adams, & Elizabeth Felts.
Josiah was in the Civil War. He was wounded August 24, 1864, returned home & died September 25, 1864. His son, Hall, went along to war with his father at age 15. He was a drummer boy & was also wounded.
