Charles was the son of Isaac Newton and Virginia (Shell) McCall, and the brother of Blanche, Ellen Mariah, John W., James L., Helen Virginia, Cora, Isaac Henry, Catherine Emma, Lillie Estelle, Annie, Maud, Amos, and Robert. He was born in 1888 in North Carolina. His father was a farmer in Burke County, North Carolina, and as a boy, Charley worked on the farm.
Charles married Lena Cox, daughter of Dudley and Lucy (Chrisman) Cox, originally from Kentucky. According to the US Census, in 1930, they were living in Rutherford County, North Carolina, where Charles was a dentist. Their children were Charles, Robert, Margaret, Glenn, and Clyde. Lena died in 1933, when some of the children were still very young. After her death, Charles married Sadie Mills Seals, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Hodge) Seals. Charles died in 1963 in Rutherford County.
