Michael's birth was registered in the Houghton le Spring district in the 1st quarter of 1846. The mother's maiden name was Gibson. [1] On 29 Mar 1846, Michael and Richard twin children of Michael and Ann Gibson McCarron were christened at Houghton le Spring, St Michael and All Angels. [2]
In 1861 the McCarron family was living at Hetton le Hole. It seems that young Michael's wife-to-be, Margaret, was a servant in the household. [3]

[4] The marriage must have taken place at a Catholic ceremony as the record is in Latin. On 20 Jan 1868 Michael son of Michael and Ann McCarron married Margaret daughter of William and Ann Davison. [5]
In 1871, Michael and Margaret were living at Downs Lane, Hetton le Hole with their baby daughter Ann. [6]
