Biography

Bill McCarron was born 6 May 1886 in Kialla, Victoria, Australia. The 3rd of 11 children born to Hugh McCarron and Rebecca Donald/Donnell. [1].

Bill moved with his father and surviving siblings to the Peak Hill region in New South Wales around 1908, after the death of their mother Rebecca, where father and sons took up farming again.

In 1911 Bill began a dam sinking business with his brother Hugh, and carried on this business successfully for a number of years.

Marriage - Eva Cooper (22) and 25 yo Bill were married in the home of Sarah Cooper in Feb 1912 in Peak Hill, NSW, Australia, Eva's mother, by a CoE priest. Eva was RC and Bill was Presbyterian. Two months later in April, Eva's 16 year old sister Olive married Bill's 24 year old brother Hugh, also at the house of Sarah Cooper. [2]. [3]. [4]

May 1913 - Living at "Irrawarra" Peak Hill with father Hugh, brothers Bob, George and William. [5]

In 1922 the two brothers Hugh and Bill bought properties across the road from each other at Dunmore, near Peak Hill. Bill and Eva settled on their property called "Rose Hill" with their family. Their brothers Don and Bob also farmed in the Dunmore area.

Family - Eva and Bill had seven children, 4 boys and 3 girls between the years of 1912-1929, all of whom lived to adulthood, and 21 grand-children who lived to adulthood. [6]

In 1923, some land was set aside from "Rose Hill" allowing a school to be opened - Dunmore school, which the family attended along with their cousins.

1943 - Bill and Eva living at Rose Hill, Dunmore . Also living there son Tom and daughter Mavery (who both in the armed services at the time) [9]

1949 - Bill and Eva living at Rose Hill, Dunmore . Also living there son Jack [10]

In 1953 Bill and Eva's daughter Mavery "Tootie" Cary died due cancer, and three years later in 1956, they lost their youngest child Eva "Bubby" Bird following childbirth.

Bill passed away 15 November 1957. At that time he and Eva were living in Howard St, Peak Hill. [11] [12]

Bill is buried at Peak Hill General Cemetery with his wife Eva. [13] [14]

    Mr. W. McCARRON, Dunmore, Peak Hill, is a native of Victoria. He has been on his present property of 640 acres for 21 years, Mr McCarron has 850 Merinos and gets a good wool clip from them. He milks 10 Jerseys, sending the cream to Dubbo. He has six breeding sows and uses Kinllabah boars. The pigs have a grazing area of about 20-acres and barley is grown for green feed. The pigs are topped off on second grade oat grain and are marketed as fats, chiefly in Peak Hill. Tom and Jack, Mr. McCarron's sons, take a keen interest in the sheep. The daughters, Mavery and Eva, attend to tho cows, Mr. McCarron manages the piggery and is in general control of the farm's activities. Mrs. MoCarron has her time fully occupied in looking after the home and is a very hospitable hostess. A feature of Dunmore is the water supply ' system tanks being provided in every paddock.
