Sir,-Seeing that some anxiety exists with regard to the non-arrival of the ship Great Australia, from Liverpool to Melbourne, and in order to allay any apprehension respecting her, I beg to inform you for the comfort of the friends of the numerous passengers on board, that I have seen a letter addressed to a friend of mine here by one of the passengers, dated Port Elizabeth, July 15, in which he states that when within about 400 miles of the Cape of Good Hope, they encountered a most terrific storm, from which they providentially escaped with no other casualty save the loss of the ship's rudder. The passengers were all in good health, and expected to be leaving for Melbourne about the 25th July.
