Biography
On 25 February 1857 Denis McCarthy was born toJohn McCarthy and Julia Nolan [1]
He married Eva Herz in 1885.[2] They had one son. Eva died in 1886.
He married Louisa Barker in 1891 in New South Wales, Australia.[3]
He passed away on 25 May 1912 at Rose Road, Grey Lynn.[4]
He was originally buried in the Catholic section of the Symonds Street Cemetery. This section was largely excavated to make way for the motorway, and the graves memorialized in a common plaque. The Auckland Library has records to provide information on these graves.
According to the late 1950's tombstone transcriptions Dennis Ernest McCarthy, husband of Louisa McCarthy, died 25 May 1912 aged 55 years.
The Catholic register has Dennis Ernest McCarthy died 25 May 1912 aged 55 years and buried 27 May 1912 of Rose Road Grey Lynn, confirmed a Symonds Street cemetery burial from Little's funeral records at Auckland City Libraries.
The New Zealand Herald of 27/5/1912 has Dennis Ernest McCarthy died 25 May 1912 aged 55 years, husband of Louisa McCarthy, and buried 27 May 1912 in Symonds Street Cemetery.
