Research Notes

  • Note: Sarah has a profile on Family Search[2]; Some notes left there indicate that within this time frame there was two Sarah C. McCartney's and one married Hiram Gould and the other married Wilson Haymond; but the same Sarah could not have been married to both men at the same time (based on the dates of her children) in different places. I have not looked at any ancestry.com information for her; but it appears that that is where the confusion may stem from. I will add some sources for the Sarah associated with the parents and the dates attached here.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:

Does everyone agree that she should be detached from Wilson M. Haymond? She was in the household of Hiram Gould in 1850, 1860, 1870. In 1870 they were in Iowa. The Find-a -Grave memorial source attached clearly shows she likely remained in Iowa.

Detaching her would solve some of the issues with these profiles.

McCartney-939 and McCartney-106 do not represent the same person because: Places of death are not alike. Children are from 2 different fathers and overlap time frames.

McCartney-939 and McCartney-106 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same spouse, death location needs confirmation because I find this source: "West Virginia Deaths, 1804-1999," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NM5C-33L : 10 March 2018), Sally Haymond, 15 Oct 1888; citing Shinar, Upshur, West Virginia, County Records, v 2 p 9, county courthouses, West Virginia; FHL microfilm 816,155.
