USAF Ret. Msgt. William R. "Dick" McCartney, 73, of County 2321 in Panama City, Fla., beloved husband, loving and proud father and cherished "Pap-Pap," passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Fairmont, W.Va., and was the only son of the late William H. and Ina Mae McCartney. He and his wife moved to this area in 1997 after having served 22 years in the United States Air Force, where he received numerous meritorious and outstanding awards. Mr. McCartney also held an associates degree in business ad-ministration.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 40 years, Carol; two sons, Michael C. McCartney and wife, Vickie; and granddaughter, Shannon (Pap-Pap's "Baby Doll") of Maryland; Rick McCartney, ex-daughter-in-law, Maria, granddaughter, Jenna, and grandson Jesse; three sisters, Wilma Morgan and husband, Raymond, Patty Tucker and husband, David; Barbara Starn and husband, Tim, all of Fairmont, W.Va.; three nephews; one niece; numerous other family members and friends.
Mr. McCartney has requested memoralization by cremation with no services. A special thanks to Covenant Hospice, Dr. John Nanfro and staff, family and friends.
