Took mothers maiden name of McCartney... Edith & Joseph separated and she gave both children her maiden name. He was born in the 1920's
In the 1940 census he was listed as living in the boarding house of Mae Duke in Gadsden, AL.

He was wedded 1 Jun 1947 to Eula Josephine Means. His marriage license lists him living at 252 So Eighth St. Gadsden, AL. and his occupation as Southern Bell Telephone Company (Miss Means was listed as working for the same company). The license lists his maternal grandparents as his parents, even though Sydney surely knew this was incorrect. [1]
Sidney died of homicide on 21 Mar 1976. His body was found in a parked car near US Highway 80 in Bossier City LA where he had gone to visit friends. He was found beaten about the head and with a rope around his neck. Robbery was the suspected motive.
Sydney is buried at Glenwood Cemetery Fort Payne, Alabama.
