I have to agree with you. I think the religious issue settles it. My Irish Methodist ancestors lost touch with one sibling because she moved to the next township and married a Presbyterian!
You spurred me to take a closer look at the McCartney's. The earliest source I have for my Henry is 1851 census in Albion Twp., Peel County, Canada West. At that time he was still unmarried but appears to be head of household with several younger siblings. It shows him born in Ireland about 1823. I think that this bunch were all Methodists, like my Bowles were. There are a few Ancestry trees which show a father Joseph, but with zero sources for that. Henry and wife, along with Thomas and his wife are all in Sandhill Cemetery (I think called Providence now) along with a lot of my Bowles ancestors. I also found Henry's death records. Some years the forms asked for parents names, but not in 1897 when he died. Any idea what religious persuasion your McCartney's were? Or if or where they immigrated to?
