↑ 2.02.12.2 First Families 2001 - McCauley, John and Ryan, Mary Ann (written by Ron Jones) [1]
”Henry McCauley owned a large area of land stretching from the village of Ballinalack toward the village of Street in County Westmeath, Ireland. He had a son Werner who erected a monument on his grave when he died in 1868. He had at least one daughter and two other sons. They worked very hard cutting turf on their father's turbary and otherwise working the land. They were not first sons and knew they would never inherit. Their father worked them hard and gave them little reward. One time, after the fair had been held, they noticed where he hid the proceeds. They later removed what they thought should be their fair share and emigrated, one brother to America, John to Tarraville in Gippsland, Victoria where he arrived by 1857.” (Written by Ron Jones with minor edits)
