Biography
Margaret arrived in NZ as a child about 1874. Her family settled in the Tauranga region. In 1889, aged 22, she married Herbert King. They had two children together. At some point around 1892 she separated from her husband and formed a common law marriage with Charles Allan. It does not appear that Margaret and Herbert were ever divorced. Margaret and Charles moved to Northland after the birth of their first child. They settled in Hukurenui and made a life for themselves there. Margaret died in Kawakawa public hospital in1934. she was buried on 15 Dec 1934 at Hukerenui. Her surname was incorrectly spelled "Allen" on her death registration and her burial records give her middle name as Elizabeth.
