Biography

Geraldine (McCauley) Sears was born in New York State.

Geraldine was born in 1883 in Marlborough, Ulster County. She was the daughter of Joseph McCauley (sometimes McCaully) and Caroline Corkey.

She married local fruit farmer Herbert Stockman Sears in 1910 in New Paltz.^[1] They had 7 daughters and a son (who sadly passed away before reaching adulthood):

• Ruth Stockman Sears 1912-2000 Registered nurse, m. 1931 Walter J McElrath, widowed 1982, died at Poughkeepsie, sons William, John, Bruce, Richard daughters Miriam Sabra and Naomi (who lived in Bangkok). Miriam and Richard predeceased her.
• Adeline Newman Sears 1913-2008 clerk for Woolworth Co., m. James L Smith, children Geraldine, Ruth, James L Smith Junior, Marcia Joy and Quentin (the only child to survived her).
• Gerald Herbert Sears 1914-1932 died at 17
• Marian Sears 1916-2012 m. Earl George Cook (1915-1996) - 3 children, living in Porterville, Marilla in 1957.
• Sgt Fannie Lyons Sears 1920-1992 served 3 years in the Women's Army Corps with Chanute Field Motor Pool, m. Pte Milton Albert F Marble in 1947^[2] (possibly a first husband "Nash" in 1941, or it might be a military acronym). Shares a name with an aunt.
• Naomi Joyce Sears 1921-1987 waitress, m. 1938 Charles Edward Freligh (1912-1998), children Gerald and Charles, appears to have divorced and remarried Mr Osborne, records still private, died in Bennington, Vermont.
• Mary C Sears 1923-2015 m. 1947 George Pultz, children George, William, Herbert, maybe more after 1950. Died at Highland, NY.
• Faith Elizabeth Sears 1925-1997 m. ? Riker, was living at Mountainville at the time of father's obituary, also m. 1968 Harry E Rohme in Minden Nevada, also m. 1979 Adam L Pierson in Pierce, Washington, and m. ? Slick prior to 1975 - a social security record links all these marriages together to the same person. Died Yolo, California. Some husbands may still be alive, details marked "Private" on Ancestry.com trees including Faith.

They were still living in the Milton area of Marlborough in the 1950s.

Herbert died in 1957 after a long illness.

Geraldine passed away in 1980 in Newburgh, Orange County.
