Biography

Margaret McChensey was born before 1801, the youngest of eight children and six daughters of James (Sr) and Rebecca Crawford McChensey. (Rebecca was her father's second wife; he had married Sarah Patterson about 1751 before leaving Ireland.)

At some point Margaret moved to Blount County, Tennessee. She never married and on 22 March 1824 she wrote her will.

"I Margaret MaChesny being weak in body but of sound mind being in all prebability on my last bed of sickness have made this my last will and testament as follows that is I appoint James Berry my executer and first I give and bequeath to my Sisters Patsey Montgomery, Nancy B. McChesney and Betsey A. McChesney [later Anderson] the sum of sixty dollars each to be paid them by executors within three years after my decease to retain the said several sums until time expires with out being accuntable for interest. I leave for the use of my sister Polly Steele the sum Sixty Dollars allowing my executer to pay the same to her in such way and at such times as he may think her necessities require or in case of her death to divide the same among her daughters at his own discretion I also leave to my sister Steel one feather bed and clothing provided she should move to this county I leave to the Southern and Westrn Theological Seminary located at Maryville*** the sum of fourty dollars one fourth of which to be paid annally after my decease until the whole is paid and lastly after the debts that I may owe are paid and my funeral expenses are discharged I leaver the ballance or my estate of every description entirely to my Sister Rebecca Berry - In testimony where of I have hereunto Set hand and seal this 22nd day of March 1824
