Scott McClain is a descendant of a Texas First Family who settled in the Republic of Texas before February 19, 1846.
Scott McClain has Slavic Roots.
Scott McClain has Italian Roots.

I was born in New Mexico but grew up mostly on army posts and air force bases overseas. My family lived in Eritrea, Italy and Germany before finally returning to Texas where I went to high school, college, and law school. I practiced law for many years, most of it for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta where I still live.

Nearly all of my father's ancestors were early American colonial immigrants and their descendants who lived in many of the English colonies in North America, including Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas. One of his emigrant ancestors came later, from England to New York in the 1830s. They all migrated west as pioneers, most through the heartland states of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa & Kansas (a few with a brief detour through Oregon and side trips to the Republic of Texas and the New Mexico Territory), and others via a more direct southern path through Tennessee. They all eventually ended up together in Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma, where my father was born. Along the way, they got tangled up in numerous Indian wars, the Salem witch trials, the Regulator rebellion, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Republic of Texas, the American Civil War, the Oregon Trail, and finally the Oklahoma land rush of 1889.

My mother's grandparents were Ellis Island immigrants: Italians from Castiglione Cosentino, in the Cosenza province of Calabria; and Croats from the village of Kópháza, in the Sopron province of what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire. My wife's ancestors include Irish potato famine refugees who settled in Boston in the 1840s and more Ellis Islanders -- Poles, Croats, alpine Italians, Norwegians, and Lithuanian Jews. My children's ancestors seem to run the gamut of European-American stories.

I love the collaborative aspect of WikiTree genealogy and am always willing to help if I can, so please reach out if we share interests!

Scott,

Here is the perfect example of what I'm talking about regarding my criticism of how Wikitree was set up, my father's profile was "high jacked" and false information added. It says my father served in World War II, no. He was born 1934 meaning he was 7 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked. What kind of minds are doing this?

I'm sure that was an innocent mistake. It looks like that member was just trying to honor his service. I have removed the incorrect category. If you want to watch over the profile, I encourage you to re-adopt it and you can set a higher privacy level to prevent anyone not on the trusted list from editing it.

I hate the new Wikitree format. It's far more convoluted now. It now resembles the graphics of Ancestry.Com. Glad I'm no longer active.

Hi Scott, I just finished revising the biography of Jean Pierre Bondurant, the progenitor of the Bondurant family in America. It seems like an important profile and might be good to have it with the PPP group. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bondurant-22

Pls feel free to edit further. The story is logical, but with no citations. I put a note about that in the Research Notes.

Hi Scott. I have no VA roots, but a DNA match does (the Cassels)

However my pet project on Women Patriots in the Revolution is finding and updating many Virginia women and along with them some husbands. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Women_Patriots_of_the_Revolutionary_War%2C_American_Revolution .....we (within the 1776 project) just started this project this month...today's count it 388 women. More to come. That is my contribution to your VA project.

Hi Scott!

Just wanted to say, “Hi” to a sixth cousin! We share Robert Hicks and Sarah Jordan as ancestors. Thank you for your excellent contributions to the efforts of so many genealogy enthusiasts and cousins! I was wondering if you have ever had identity issues with your “private” info not being so private. I’m reluctant to add too much online and I’m almost a couple decades your senior.

1. Would you like to continue as a PGM project team member?;

2. Do you have any suggestions for PGM Project priorities in the next year (optional)?;

3. Do you have interest in taking a more active role within the PGM project, and if so, what you might be interested in doing (optional)?

Please respond to this comment on your profile, or if you'd like, send a private message to either Bobbie (Madison) Hall or S (Hill) Willson.

Thanks for all you do for PGM and WikiTree!

Greetings,

Looks like we’re related (but the point is we all are). Joseph Shields was my g-g-g grandfather. Your WikiTree resume’ is very impressive. I got involved researching my husband’s tree (James Yard Lawrence) which was quite interesting. Then I tried my side. Have not been active for past year but hope to get back to work soon. Hi Scott,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the US History would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Adding the tag United_States_History will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
