Note N434 In the name of God, Amen. I, Peter McClanahan of the County of Westmoreland, and the Parish of Cople, being sick and weak, tho in perfect sincse and memory, that be to the Almight God for it, doth make and ordain this my last will and testament calling to mind the uncertainty of this life knowing that it hath pleased God??? to all men to dye [sic]. and as fpr what worldly good it hath pleased God to bestow on me, I do devise in manner and form following, wiz: ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son, William McClanahan, all my land and one negro cald [sic] Daniel to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten, and if he should have none such heirs to return to the next heir and as for the rest of my six children, I do give and bequeath all my estate not mentioned, both reel [sic] and personnel, to be equally divided between Peter McClanahan, Thomas McClanahan, Janes McClanahan, Mary McClanahan, Betty McClanahan, and my son Thomas McClanahan, and my son Peter McClanahan my whole and sole execturos of this my last will and testement. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this ninth day of January, one thousand seven Hundred and Seventy-five. PETER McCLANAHAN (Wm., Thos.), b. Cople Parish, Westmoreland Co., Virginia, ca. 173235 was third named in his father's will as Adm'r, only Peter qualified; the others were too far away. A Mrs. Jean RUUD of Los Angeles, CA was said to have accumulated much data on the line of Peter, but I have not seen it. However, it was said that all of Peter's descendants left Westmoreland by 1810. Montross, Westmoreland Co., deeds, Bk. 15, pg 207, dated October 21 1765: John BAYLEY and wife Elizabeth of Cople Parish, Westmoreland Co., VA (lower parish) sell Peter MCCLANAHAN of same parish and county for 75 pounds current money 75 acres more or less joining the honorable Robert CARTER, Esq., with all rights and privileges, titles, etc. WIts.: James BAILEY John FLEMING John MCCLANAHAN
It is not know what his wife's maiden name, presumeable it was BAILEY, and this was as "dower." Will dated 9 January 1775: Teste: David CRENSHAW, Geo. CURTIS, John MCCLANAHAN in deed and wills #16 pg.5, Westmoreland Records. No date of probate for this period. Children: 900 1. William got all land and negro, Daniel. He was named Executor, brothers Thomas and Peter. Rest of his six children got all the rest of the estate, so wife was then deceased. 900 2. Peter, 4 Bk. 15, pg. 71, Richmond Co., VA dated 12 Sept. 1782. Robert W. CARTER of North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., VA leases Peter MCLANAHn of the the sd.county, one tract of land whereon MCCLANAHAN lives containing 250 acres situated and lying in the county aforesaid, joining land to Robert PRITCHETT and John BOOTH unto Peter MCCLANAHAN and heirs forever, unto end of 14 year, said MCLANAHAN paying and yielding 1000 pounds crop tobacco 1st June yearly, McCLANAHAN to place apple and peach trees, etc. Signed Robert W. Thaddeus JACKSON CALENDER, VA STATE PAPERS, v. 5, pg 401, William NIMMS certifies that Richard PROUT, on of the inspectors of Coen Warehouse is dead and encloses copy of court order of the court record, etc., and Peter MCCLANAHAN as fit person for the office of Inspector of tobacco at Coen Warehouse Northumberland Co., VA Nov. 27, 1791 902 3.
