Some research notes

The progenitor of the primarily Virginia families was James, son of James. The father was one of three brothers who fled Scotland to live in Larne and later Coleraine in Ireland. William was a pastor of Timber Ridge Church as was his brother James. William, James and a third brother, along with a cousin John took up lands in the Borden Grant.

His wife is unknown. None of the McClung researchers have discovered her name. A woman named Eliza Willis was attributed to him, that seems to be sourced from one of the sketchy ancestry or family search trees.

IMISC: Quote from R.D. Campbell's "History of the Campbell Family (CAM 100): "William McClung and his children arrived in Lancaster County, PA around 1745 - 1746. The seemed to immediately scatter to Delaware and Virginia. At least one son stayed in Upper Leacock Township, in Lancaster County (PA). William's oldest daughter was Elizabeth McClung."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

McClung-227 and McClung-169 appear to represent the same person because: Both profiles sorely lacking details which are readily found in numerous publications by McClung researchers. After correcting many errors in the older profile I realized that they represented the same individual. The original profile which I repaired had references to a Donegal resident who lived a century later. His profile needs to be completely rebuilt.
