John Morrison McClure, the sixth of seven children born to John McClure and Margaret Morrison McClure, was born on May 26, 1805, in Ross County, Ohio.

John M, at 25 years old, married 18-year-old Elizabeth Taylor, September 21, 1830 in Ross County, Ohio. She was born on March 9, 1812. The census of 1830 shows John M. living in Madison, Highland County, Ohio with only his 68-year-old mother, Margaret, living with him. His father, John, had died sometime before 1830. The census was most likely taken in June or July, as most of them were, so he was enumerated before his marriage to Elizabeth Taylor. After the death of his mother, Margaret McClure, John Morrison more than likely took over the original McClure farm, since in 1840, he and Elizabeth were living at that site in Paint, Highland County, which was formerly Ross County. The farm was said to be valued at $7,000 according to the 1840 census. John M. and Elizabeth remained living there at least through 1855. All the small towns in Highland County such as Paint, Madison, Greenfield, Highland City and Rainsboro were just small settlements then and all were within a few miles of each other in about a ten-mile radius. Between 1855 and 1859, John M. and Elizabeth remained in Highland County, but they had moved to Highland City. This was where John M. passed away of scarlet fever on October 10, 1859 at 55 years old. Elizabeth lived on for only five more years until September 18, 1864, when she died at 52 years old, in Rainsboro, Highland County. They are both buried in Hulitt Cemetery, Highland County, Ohio.

John M. and Elizabeth Taylor McClure had 14 children, all born in Highland County, Ohio.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with John:
